ROUTE DESCRIPTION

Walking through one of the oldest villages in New France is an experience in itself.

In addition to the microclimate that envelops it and the lush vegetation that surrounds it, Saint-Joachim serves as a reminder of the history of the conquest, when ten defenders paid with their lives for resisting the English army and the church and the houses surrounding it were set ablaze. The rich decoration of the sanctuary in the present-day church seeks to help people forget this dark episode and highlights the prosperity of the fertile lands in times of peace. The walk along Avenue Royale toward Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré is peaceful and inspiring.

Things to Do in Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré

A Brief History of the Stopover Town

Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré

More than just a tourist attraction, the Basilica of Saint Anne of Beaupré is part of the Notre-Dame de Québec Pilgrimage Route and the North American “equivalent” of the Camino de Santiago (Kapoah), serving as a symbol of faith linked to its most ancient origins. It is a renowned place of prayer where so many visitors and pilgrims have recognized a sign of the Lord’s presence and the goodness of Saint Anne. Others experience the Church gathered together in a shared pilgrimage toward God, where families feel especially at home; this is the case for the Kapoah pilgrims and the PilgrimsNorth American Kapoah.
